An effective way to do VIP work in GTA Online: The Wave Method

Are you a grinder in GTA Online? Let me show you a smart method to do VIP work.

GTA Online Headhunter

What is the Wave Method?

The Wave Method was originally detailed in a Reddit post. It's a certain sequence for basic VIP jobs which let you shorten or bypass the cooldown periods between them. It involves 3 types of VIP work: Headhunter, Hostile Takeover and Sightseer. The method helps the player with two types of cooldowns:

  • the time between the same VIP jobs (10-20 minutes),
  • the time between two different type of VIP jobs (5 minutes).

The game changed a lot since 2016, and it affected the cooldown times, too. It means the original method needed a little a tweak.

VIP work cooldowns

My sequence for the Wave

  1. Start a Headhunter and complete it.
  2. Wait for the 5 minute cooldown to pass.
  3. Start a Hostile Takeover and complete it.
  4. There should be a 5 minute cooldown but if Hostile Takeover took you more than 5 minutes to complete, you should be able to start the next one right away.
  5. Start a Headhunter and complete it.
  6. Wait for the 5 minute cooldown to pass.
  7. Start a Sightseer and complete it.
  8. After you completed it, you can start another Headhunter without cooldown.
  9. Repeat steps 1-7.

What I use

To earn the most money you need to complete the VIP jobs fast. I mostly use a Hydra for the missions, but an Opressor MK2 or a Buzzard will do.

If you are a lower-level player with less resources, you can find Buzzards in the usual freemode spawn places (helipads), or you can steal a Lazer fighter jet from the Fort Zancudo base after you called Lester to keep the cops away from you.

One more thing: I usually start the missions from the city, and the Hostile Takeover from the LSIA.

Do you have your own method? What sequence do you use? Let me know in the comments section!

Stealing and selling NPC cars in GTA Online is not the most lucrative business but it gives you a little monetary boost. In this little guide I'll show you a place where you may find some slightly more valuable cars in freemode.

GTA Online "little tips": the AFK taxi

Taxis are a common sight on the streets of Los Santos in the story mode of GTA 5, and they provide a nice quick traveling method. But only a few of us use them in GTA Online because they are stripped of their latter function. However, they can still provide a little help when you have to AFK or you just simply don't feel like driving.
